Past Life Payback

There is a widespread belief that you will get punished in this life for the transgressions in the past, and I’m here to tell you that’s a load of codswallop!

In doing my work with people’s energies, I have never been shown that a person deserves what is happening in this life because of how they lived their previous life. There is never a sense of punishment, merely complete compassion and understanding from spirit.

In fact, the most damage that can be done in this life is by bringing forwards the mistakes of past lives and assuming that you deserve to be punished for them. For that is when you bring negative experiences to you, purely for the sake of punishing yourself, and there is absolutely no reason to do so!

Yes, there are lessons to be learnt in this life, but they are lessons to help you grow and expand. Not to make you suffer and as payback. Each time you learn more about yourself and how to live your life fully and with joy, you are growing. Even if the experience was painful, you are going through it to become more in line with your authentic self. There is no punishment involved.

So how do you let go of the pain of your previous lives, so you do not carry them around as punishment? Learn self-forgiveness and understanding of others to a deep level.

Understanding of others to a deep level doesn’t mean forgiving others who have harmed you and who don’t deserve forgiveness. It doesn’t mean allowing others to ride roughshod over you (whether that be in physical form or spirit form! Yes you know who you are who does this!). You don’t have to accept it just because you can understand why they did what they did.

Understanding of others means that you can see why someone has got to where they have, and know that they are or were probably trying to do the best they could with the circumstances they found themselves in. It doesn’t mean you have to forgive them or allow them to continue to hurt you. It’s simply acknowledging their path, understanding that they have had to walk a very different path to you and still maintaining your boundaries as to what you will and won’t accept in your life. That level of understanding is not something that can be taught. You simply have to begin and learn how.

Self- forgiveness for your past lives comes when you can understand that each life lived is unique to that person, and you cannot know that you would have done things differently if you’d lived their life. Once you can accept that, then you can see that each of your past lives was simply a series of decisions made. Each decision made in the hope that this was the right one for you and would bring you happiness, escape from pain, something important for those you loved, reduction of fear or any of the huge range of reasons why people make choices.

Then you can stop judging yourself for the decisions of your past life that you wish you’d done differently. Then, you can show your past lives true compassion and understanding. You don’t have to agree with the decisions you made then. You just have to be compassionate to the person who made them.

Can you do all this without knowing what you did in past lives? Absolutely. You don’t need to know the ins and outs of what you did or the lives you lived. You simply need to spend time giving love and compassion to that part of your energy. You can do so in a meditation, in a ritual, in everyday life.

Remember, those past lives deserve as much compassion and understanding as you do right now. Be kind to yourself in all it’s lived experiences and chose to leave the past where it belongs. You don’t need to carry the guilt anymore.

Anger and The Spiritual Life

There are many people who will tell you that to live a truly spiritual life you have to step away from anger. That anger is not something that really spiritual people feel or at least would ever admit to.

Well they’re wrong. Anger is an emotion of the human experience and to deny it or supress it is like pretending you don’t go to the toilet. In fact, trying to deny or suppress it just makes the emotion even more powerful and damaging. Anger is a way of your emotions telling you that your boundaries have been overstepped, that you’ve been badly hurt or that you are living with a whole load of unmanaged fear.

Anger isn’t the problem, the reason why you are feeling anger is. Anger often comes about when we have ignored something for too long and often, for the spiritual person, it’s when we’ve ignored our instincts for too long and that has meant that we have allowed ourselves to get hurt. Anger most often comes about when we’re dealing with a whole load of fear as to what will happen next, how we will cope or whether we will have to deal with extreme pain.

The pandemic was a prime example of this and it still massively impacts people now. The fear of what might happen to their nearest or dearest or themselves, led many people to behave appallingly to others. It led many people to get stuck in a whirlpool of fear and anger that they can’t see a way out of.

In what ways are you living in fear? How do you cope with fear? Are you an action taker (be that for good or bad) or a freeze and hope it will go away person? Do you confront your fear and work through it or do you let it stew?

If you’re not dealing with your fear and subsequent anger in a healthy way it can massively impact on your spiritual life but pretending it doesn’t exist or you don’t feel fear or anger is just as damaging.

So how do you deal with it? It’s a very very simple process (with the proviso that if you’ve experienced abuse or severe trauma please get professional help to process it). You witness it, let it move through your body and mind, express it in a safe and healthy way, and let it go. The hardest part is the last part and often when we think we’ve let it go we find there’s residual fear and anger there that we need to find a way to unstick.

Spiritual practices that can help with this are things such as mindfulness, energy bubbles, making sure you ground and centre regularly, connecting in with the energy of the earth, water, wind or fire, asking for help from guides or deities and spiritually creative practices.

Remember, bring it out in to the open, allow it to happen and experience it safely, and then find the ways that work for you to release it. Experience all emotions of the soul. Just don’t hang on to them for longer than you need to.

TRIGGER WARNING: SUICIDE

Suicide and the transition to spirit

I know this is a very difficult subject and it’s one that causes huge amounts of grief and fear. So much is misunderstood about how a person transitions to spirit after suicide I want to explain more about it.

For a very long time we’ve been told that committing suicide means you will go to hell/spend forever in damnation/ that your soul will never rest. The reason that was told to people was to try to make them so afraid of doing so that they wouldn’t take their own lives. It was a way of trying to prevent suicides.

Unfortunately, that doesn’t stop people who are in so much emotional or physical pain that it seems to be the only way to stop that pain. All that consumes them is the need for the pain to stop. If you’re feeling like this please reach out for help. Death is not the answer you think it is.

So what’s the truth about the spirit transition after suicide? The simple fact is that they transition just the same as anyone else. Admittedly, should the death be particularly traumatic and surrounded by confusion, then there is an increased risk of them not noticing the way over and becoming earthbound. However, that’s not due to the fact they’ve died through suicide. It’s to do with the nature of the death. Violent, confusing deaths make it harder to transition when they should and then harder to find the way when they’re stuck (some spirits do choose to stay earthbound).

What does often happen is that due to the nature of their suffering before death, people who’ve committed suicide believe that they’re not worthy of the help they are offered when they pass. They can spend more time than normal trying to apologise to friends and family and not focusing on what they need to do next.

It’s almost like they want to carry on being punished by seeing other’s grief. As getting the help they are offered in spirit, would in many ways require more strength and courage than they feel they have. Sometimes kindness and acceptance feels more scary and potentially painful than rejection and self blame.

So if you have a friend or family member who’s died from suicide the most help you can give them is to forgive them, and ask them to accept the help they’ll be given in the next plane. Tell them and show them that whilst they are very much missed and loved, that it is now time for them to move on.

If you’ve suffered the pain of loosing someone to suicide I send many blessings and light to you. Know they’re with you and that they never meant to cause you pain. They just wanted relief from their own all consuming pain.

If you’re contemplating suicide please reach out to someone or an organisation that can help (see below for UK resources). I know the pain is immense, but as someone who has come out the other side I can promise you that it does ease. It takes bravery and strength, but I can promise you that you have it within you. It may be hidden under a whole load of rubbish right now but it’s there right at the core of you.
